Trial scheduled for deadly road rage incident in Plymouth

First Posted: 3/28/2014 WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The state&#8217;s top law enforcement official, a season political consultant and a former college and NBA star will headline the 2014 Northeastern Pennsylvania Council Boy Scouts of American annual dinner.
Attorney General Kathleen Kane and Patrick J. Solano will be honored for their positive contributions to the community when at the Boy Scouts&#8217; Distinguished Citizens Awards Dinner on April 9 at the Best Western Genetti Hotel & Conference Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Bill Walton, former UCLA and NBA star and current college commentator, will be the keynote speaker. The event is being coordinated by Greg Collins, area president of Wells Fargo Bank, and Dan Santaniello, president/CEO of Fidelity Bank.
Walton, 61, is expected to speak about his experiences within the sports world. According to information provided by the Boy Scouts, after being introduced to basketball in the fourth grade and continuing through college, Walton was the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft.
Walton enrolled at UCLA in 1970 and played center for John Wooden&#8217;s team for three seasons, 1972-1974. He was a member of two undefeated NCAA championship teams, compiling an NCAA record 88 consecutive wins.
Walton is a three-time recipient of the NCAA Player of the Year Award and a three-time All-America College Player and winner of the Sullivan Award for the U.S. Best Amateur Athlete of 1973. At UCLA Walton was a scholar-athlete who also earned Academic All-America honors three years in a row. He graduated with honors with a bachelor&#8217;s in history.
Walton was the number one overall pick in the 1974 NBA draft by the Portland Trailblazers and was a member of their championship team in 1977. Nine years later, he earned another championship title, this time with the Boston Celtics in 1986. He played with the Trailblazers 1974-1979, the San Diego Clippers 1979-1984, the relocated Los Angeles Clippers in 1985, and The Boston Celtics 1985-1988. Walton was the NBA&#8217;s Most Valuable Player in 1978.
Over the last 21 years he has worked for ABC, ESPN, NBC, CBS, Fox, MSNBC, Turner Sports, KCAL, NESN, and the NBA. In 1993, Walton was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. In 1997 Walton was selected as one of the NBA&#8217;s 50 Greatest Players of all Time.
Solano, 88, of Pittston Township, has received several honors in recent weeks.
&#8220;To think I&#8217;m getting these awards all at once after all these years,&#8221; Solano said. &#8220;I guess somebody discovered me and blew my cover.&#8221;
Solano said he has been involved &#8220;with a lot of things for a lot of years&#8221; and said he appreciates the attention he is now receiving.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve served nine governors in executive positions,&#8221; Solano said. &#8220;And I&#8217;ve enjoyed every minute.&#8221;
