First Posted: 10/15/2014 As Penn State&#8217;s athletic department climbs out of the rubble of NCAA sanctions, the school has been exploring ways to make up for lost revenue.
It just won&#8217;t come from season ticket packages in 2015.
Penn State announced Wednesday that the cost of season tickets for next year will not increase. Required Nittany Lion Club donation levels will also remain the same to order season tickets.
One cost that will be going up is season parking passes, which will now cost $100 for a car and $350 for an RV in 2015.
Penn State officials had listed ticket and parking price increases as possibilities during a presentation to the school&#8217;s finance committee in September.
Naturally, that news wasn&#8217;t appealing to fans. New athletic director Sandy Barbour was quick to say that no final decisions had been made.
&#8220;We were asked about possible scenarios or plans to close the financial gap,&#8221; Barbour said earlier this month. &#8220;A couple of the things that we had on the list were no-brainers for having them on a list. It doesn&#8217;t mean we&#8217;re going to do them.
&#8220;The finance committee would have raised a hand if I didn&#8217;t put ticket costs on the list. They&#8217;d have asked, &#8216;What kind of AD are you?&#8217; You had to put it on list. &#8230; That&#8217;s all it was. Identifying possibilities.&#8221;
For individual game tickets, Penn State has already moved to a variable pricing structure. The school&#8217;s next home game, for example &#8212; a primetime kickoff against Ohio State on Oct. 25 &#8212; has the most expensive tickets, with the season finale against Michigan State also in that tier.
Non-conference home games against Akron, UMass and Temple were significantly cheaper.
Season ticket renewals for 2015 are now available online. NLC donations and season ticket balances that are paid in full by Nov. 1 will earn additional NLC points. Payment deadlines for the seat selection process is Feb. 1.
