Sisters are doin’ it for themselves in ‘The Other Woman’

First Posted: 1/11/2014 NEW YORK &#8212; JayVaughn Pinkston had 15 points and 10 rebounds No. 8 Villanova overcame some early shooting woes to beat St. John&#8217;s 74-67 on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
The Wildcats (15-1, 4-0 Big East) came into the game having shot better than 50 percent from the field and 3-point range in their last three games. Against St. John&#8217;s (9-6, 0-3) they struggled from both in the first half shooting 25.9 percent from the field (7 of 27) and 22.2 percent from 3 (2 of 9).
The game was close through the first 12 minutes of the second half with neither team having more than a three-point lead until Villanova went on a 10-1 run that gave it a 65-57 lead with 3:13 to go.
Josh Hart added 14 points for the Wildcats while Ryan Arcidiacono added 13.
No. 24 Memphis 79, Temple 69
PHILADELPHIA &#8212; Shaq Goodwin had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 24 Memphis.
Down four early in the second half, Memphis (12-3, 3-1 American) used a 17-6 run lasting nearly seven minutes to finally pull away and successfully follow up its win at No. 12 Louisville on Thursday. Memphis is only the second ranked team to win at Temple in the past six seasons. Then No. 1 Kansas topped the Owls in the 2009-10 season.
The Owls led 49-48 with 13:46 to play but came undone after switching to a zone defense out of a timeout. After air-balling its first attempt against the zone, Memphis hit three quick threes to spark a run and take a 10-point lead with 6:55 remaining.
Dalton Pepper scored 24 to lead Temple.
Indiana 79, Penn State 76
PITTSBURGH &#8212; Noah Vonleh scored a career-high 19 points, Yogi Ferrell added 15 and Indiana held off Penn State.
The Hoosiers (11-5, 1-2 Big Ten) trailed by as many as 15 early before rallying by the reeling Nittany Lions (9-8, 0-4) in the second half. Indiana took the lead for good on a 3-pointer from the corner by Austin Etherington with 1:22 left and made six straight free throws to avoid its first worst start in conference play in three years.
DJ Newbill tied a career-high with 24 points for Penn State, but his 3-point heave with 3 seconds left hit the back of the rim as the Nittany Lions lost their sixth straight conference game.
Ross Travis chipped in 13 points but leading scorer Tim Frazier was limited to 10 points and fouled out as Penn State&#8217;s beleaguered basketball program couldn&#8217;t provide another emotional boost on the same day the football program lured James Franklin away from Vanderbilt to succeed Bill O&#8217;Brien. In front of a crowd well short of capacity, there was no sign or mention during the game of Franklin, who was to be introduced later in the day.
Pittsburgh 80, Wake Forest 65
PITTSBURGH &#8212; Pittsburgh shot out to an early lead Saturday against Wake Forest and didn&#8217;t look back as they notched their third straight Atlantic Coast Conference.
Lamar Patterson led all scorers with 27 points, his sixth 20-point game of the season.
Talib Zanna anchored Pitt&#8217;s frontcourt presence as he scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to earn his fifth double-double of the season alongside four blocks. Durand Johnson chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Pitt (15-1, 3-0 ACC) began the contest on a 8-1 run keyed by a pair of baskets from point guard James Robinson, and led by 20 points in the second half.
Wake Forest (11-5, 1-2) entered Saturday&#8217;s game with four players averaging 10 points per game or more, but only Devin Thomas found his game with 17 points and nine boards before he fouled out in the second half.
Drexel 93, Northeastern 88, 2OT
PHILADELPHIA &#8212; Frantz Massenat scored a career-high 27 points and had 12 rebounds and eight assists to lead Drexel.
Chris Fouch scored 31 points for the Dragons (9-6, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association). Tavon Allen added 18.
With the score 76-76 in the second overtime, Fouch scored 11 points &#8212; including a pair of 3-pointers &#8212; to give the Dragons a six-point edge with 13 seconds to play. A Scott Eatherton layup for the Huskies as time ran out could not make up the deficit.
Boston U. 89, Lafayette 78
EASTON &#8212; John Papale scored 16 points to lead a balanced Boston University offense in a win over Lafayette.
Boston U. (11-6, 4-0) took a 37-34 lead into halftime before pulling away behind 13 second half points from Papale. Up 49-47, the Terriers used a 19-6 run to open a 68-53 lead with 9:56 left and Lafayette (4-11, 0-4) could not recover.
Dan Trist led Lafayette with 19 points. Nick Lindner had 16 and Joey Ptasinski 13.
Bucknell 61, Holy Cross 57
LEWISBURG &#8212; Chris Hass made a go-ahead layup and Ryan Frazier added a late jumper to help Bucknell move past Holy Cross.
Dave Dudzinksi sank two free throws to pull Holy Cross within one, but Justin Burrell couldn&#8217;t connect on a go-ahead 3-pointer after a split pair of free throws by Ryan Hill.
Ben Brackney had 13 points for Bucknell.
Robert Morris 71, Bryant 67
SMITHFIELD, R.I. &#8212; Karvel Anderson scored 32 points, including his team&#8217;s final nine, as Robert Morris defeated Bryant.
Anderson made 12 of 23 field-goal attempts, including 6 of 13 3-pointers. Jeremiah Worthem added 10 points and Lucky Jones nine points and 11 rebounds.
Alex Francis scored 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting for Bryant with Starks adding 13 and Joe O&#8217;Shea 11.
St. Francis (Pa.) 75, Central Connecticut 67
NEW BRITAIN, Conn.&#8212; Dominique Major scored 19 points as St. Francis held off Central Connecticut.
St. Francis (3-12, 1-1 Northeast) got 18 points and 12 rebounds from Earl Brown, while Malik Harmon added 12 points and Ollie Jackson had 10 points and eight boards.
Central Connecticut (4-11, 0-2) was paced by Faronte Drakeford&#8217;s 22 points and Matt Mobley had 19 points in the loss.
