Jockey Victor Espinoza, who rode American Pharoah to wins at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes this year, is scheduled to appear at the Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Tuesday from 3:30 - 5 p.m.American Pharoah will be out to make history by winning the elusive Triple Crown at the 147th Belmont Stakes on Saturday.Espinoza will be appearing for autographs and photos on the Sky Bridge between the casino and the race track. The event is a wristband-only access. Fans may obtain a wristband starting at 1 p.m., with a limited amount available.Espinoza has won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes three times, riding War Emblem in 2002; California Chrome in 2014; and American Pharoah this year. As of this date, he is the first jockey in history to enter the Belmont Stakes with a third opportunity to win the Triple Crown.Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono will host a Belmont Stakes party on Saturday, with live harness racing at 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m., and 12 additional races immediately following the 147th Belmont Stakes.Temple&#8217;s Matthews selected to DI All-Region TeamFor the second straight year, Temple junior golfer Brandon Matthews has been named to the Division I PING All-Northeast Region team. The teams from the six regions were announced Saturday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.Matthews, who placed in the Top 10 in 11 of the Owls&#8217; 12 tournaments this season, established a new school record for season stroke average (70.9) while tying school marks for consecutive wins (3) and career wins (8).A two-time conference Golf Player of the Week, the Dupont native and former Pittston Area athlete, won the Temple Invitational in the fall before rattling off victories at the Furman Intercollegiate, the Met Intercollegiate and the Princeton Invitational.
