The Wilkes-Barre Township Republican Party candidates swept the May primary election in the township, solidifying the party&#8217;s position for all elected seats including mayor and all five council members.Mayor Carl Kuren won nominations on both sides, garnering 146 Republican votes and 137 Democratic write-in votes. Township resident John Bryan, the only opposition, received 12 write-in votes from registered Democrats. This will be Mayor Kuren&#8217;s unprecedented fifth term in office when he is sworn in during January for another four-year term. He should be very proud of this achievement!Council members on the Republican ticket also swept both sides. Incumbents Katie Krutski Arnone and John Jablowski Jr. received 146 and 130 votes, respectively, on the Republican side and 22 and 28 write-in votes on the Democratic side. Mary Berzinski Waskevich, new to the Republican ticket in the township, received 115 votes from Republicans and 19 write-in votes from Democrats.I thank the voters for having received 105 votes for the position of constable and look forward to serving the people of Wilkes-Barre Township.As we move forward with Mayor Kuren, we know that the future of the township is in good hands. Both he and council will continue to see that the township prospers.Mayor Kuren has devoted so much time and effort to this community. Consequently, we&#8217;ve seen continued improvements in our infrastructure, revitalization of all of our parks and playgrounds, and continued services for our residents, including senior citizens and children. There also have been improvements at the Wilkes-Barre Township Settlement Camp. The township provides excellent and professional law enforcement services, operates a Department of Public Works that is second to none and has a renewed positive relationship with our volunteer fire department. And perhaps most important to all of our taxpayers, there&#8217;s fiscal responsibility!The future of the township is a bit brighter after the May primary.
