Auxiliary members attend Memorial Day services

HANOVER TWP.: The honor guard of American Legion Post 673, Ashley, and Kniffen O&#8217;Malley Funeral Homes are conducting an interment ceremony commemorating retired American flags at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 12, at Oak Lawn Cemetery. The retired flags were collected from veterans&#8217; graves by local organizations and were replaced with new flags. The public and veterans groups are invited to attend the ceremony.WILKES-BARRE: The Wilkes University Polish Room Committee recently held its May meeting at Patte&#8217;s Sports Bar and Restaurant, Wilkes-Barre. Barbara Yacuboski and Susan Najaka were the winners of the club&#8217;s monthly drawing.The club&#8217;s fourth annual tea will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, at the Irem Country Club, Dallas. Mary Lou Zaleski and Susan Najaka are co-chairs for the event. The reservation deadline is Thursday, June 4.WILKES-BARRE: The Pi Beta Gamma Club of Wyoming Valley will hold its June party at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at the Anthracite Cafe, Scott Street, Wilkes-Barre.Arrangements for the meeting are being made by the club&#8217;s officers. Susan Najaka, the club&#8217;s president, is the chairperson. Carla Kaminski, Jane Straub and Joyce Latoski are also on the committee. Any members and guests who would like to attend the party can call Susan at 570-736-6304.At the May meeting, flower centerpieces were won by Margaret Turchanik, Betty Straub and Sandy Margavage. The Gift of the Month was won by Kay Jones. Various other prizes were won by Patty Reese, Sandy Ansel, Tara Senape, Rita Galat, Peg Malkemes and Mick Flynn.The club&#8217;s annual charitable donation will be given to Dinners for Kids, a non-profit program founded by David Tevet, owner of Ollie&#8217;s Restaurant, Edwardsville. Patty Reese, Sandy Ansell and Sandy Margavage are on the Charity Research Committee.
