U.S. deficit  hits record  high levels

LAUREL RUN &amp;ndash; Rather than continuing to use the services of an interim building codes inspection service, council Thursday voted to give BHW Construction of  the job.

Barry Isett Engineers of Hazleton had stepped in several weeks ago when the prior codes inspection service was dropped, but some council members were concerned about the fees and costs that Isett had passed to the borough since they took on the work.
Councilman Brian Correll noted that they had charged $150 for three hours of phone calls, and had even charged for tolls and mileage when they came to the borough from Hazleton.
They had even charged $125 to evaluate and create the fee schedule they would be paid from, Correll pointed out.
BHW representatives said they would not charge additional fees unless the borough moved significantly away from the agreed services, nor would they charge for telephone conversations.
In other business, council accepted the formal presentation of the master development plan for the Giants&amp;rsquo; Despair Park.
According to Eric Kells, one of the intern planners, the park has the support of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, who will fully fund the project if it is done right.
Kells noted the park has everything residents requested, from basketball courts and a dog park to a pavilion and other amenities for the hill climb, as well as rain gardens to handle the storm water runoff issues, rather than feed the increased water flow into the Wilkes-Barre and Wilkes-Barre Township systems. 
Kells noted that the trails proposed for the site are actually operational, having been developed and maintained through illicit all terrain vehicle use.
Council held off from making changes to the borough&amp;rsquo;s burn-ordinance until other council members who were absent from Thursday&amp;rsquo;s meeting have an opportunity for input.
