KINGSTON TWP. - A tractor-trailer driver who Lehman Township police said was communicating with a dispatcher when he crashed into several vehicles that claimed the life of a North Carolina man pleaded guilty to five summary traffic violations, according to court records. 

Jonathan Basil Havel Sr., 57, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded guilty to four counts of careless driving and a single count of failing to keep right of way. He was fined $1,568, court records say. 
Havel pleaded guilty to the traffic violations at the office of District Judge James E. Tupper in Kingston Township. 
Police said Havel was behind the wheel of a 2007 International tractor-trailer traveling on state Route 118 on Nov. 7 when he became distracted from the roadway and collided with three vehicles at the intersection of Fedor Road. 
A North Carolina man was killed in the crash, police said. 
Police said Havel was using a laptop computer e-mailing a dispatcher.
