KINGSTON &amp;ndash; The reorganization of the Luzerne Intermediate Unit&amp;rsquo;s technology department led to the elimination of the technology coordinator position, but the person who held it may still have a job.
The LIU board of directors voted to eliminate the coordinator&amp;rsquo;s position at Wednesday&amp;rsquo;s meeting. Executive Director Michael Ostrowski said the departure of the technology department&amp;rsquo;s director left the department &amp;ldquo;in kind of a disarray&amp;rdquo; and led to the decision to reorganize the department.
He said that Laura Matechak, who held the $50,000-a-year coordinator&amp;rsquo;s position for the last year and a half, may be moved to another position as the reorganization progresses. 
The board also hired Tammy Carr and Joseph Reggie, part-time therapeutic support staff at $17 per hour; Carol Nicholas, part-time behavioral specialist consultant at $30 per hour and mobile therapist at $27 per hour; Marlene Williams, Millard Galat and Ruth Wren, school-to-work job coaches at $12 per hour; Jon McHale, workforce in action at $120 per diem; Momeena Garcia, workforce in action at $60 per half-day; Annaleigh Brace, Act 93 business office employee at $34,000 per year, and Maria Bustin, Michelle Hopkins and Maria Wright, special education teachers, salaries not provided.
The board also elected Barry Williams, representing the Wyoming Valley West School District, to serve as board president. Outgoing President William Swilley was presented with a director&amp;rsquo;s gavel in recognition of his service.
