But no more.Because of a dispute between the fire company and the adjacent property owner, the bazaar has been canceled for this year and probably forever.The adjacent property owner &#8212; Christa Ann Properties &#8212; is represented by Mike Kon. He said he wants to be a good neighbor, but certain conditions were not met to allow parking on the property.There is an issue with an access road too that can&#8217;t be resolved.While both parties say they are willing to talk to reach a resolution, it hasn&#8217;t happened and probably won&#8217;t.The losses are plenty. For starters, the fire company has to make up the loss of revenue raised by the bazaar. Chief Rob Meyers said the bazaar brought in $7,500 to $10,000 each year for the fire company.A 5K run was held last week and the fire company raised about $1,600, Meyers said. There will have to be several more fund raising events to offset the loss of the bazaar.Wilkes-Barre seeks bids for Sterling site developmentWILKES-BARRE &#8212; The City of Wilkes-Barre on Monday announced it was seeking proposals for development of the <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local-news-news/154207349/" target="_blank">Hotel Sterling site</a> into a &#8220;signature, mixed-use&#8221; property, tabbing the 2-acre lot as a &#8220;spectacular center city riverfront development opportunity.&#8221; At the corner of Market and River streets in Downtown Wilkes-Barre, the former landmark hotel &#8212; closed in 1998 and demolished in 2013 &#8212; was transferred to city ownership on June 11.The 26-page solicitation outlines the project&#8217;s goals of leveraging the site&#8217;s potential and strengthening the downtown while touting strides made in the city&#8217;s development.The site&#8217;s ideal usage, according to the proposal, would include a mix of ground-floor commercial uses such as restaurant or retail spaces and residential, hotel or office space on the upper floors. However, the city would consider other proposals based on &#8220;sound program plan and market analysis.&#8221;Man found in the street under the influence of synthetic marijuanaWILKES-BARRE &#8212; Dakota Whitmire, 23, of Lasalle Street, is facing public intoxication charges after police allegedly found him <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/blotter-local-news/154208730/" target="_blank">under the influence of synthetic marijuana </a>on Sunday night.Police allegedly found Whitmire shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of Pizza Fellas on South Main Street. Police say that Whitmire was &#8220;highly intoxicated&#8221; under the influence of synthetic marijuana. Police say that his level of intoxication required that he be transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
