First Posted: 11/17/2013 Coughlin lineman Anthony Khalife made a visit to Colgate University on Saturday and decided it was the place for him. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder made a verbal commitment to continue his football and academic careers there.
Khalife will receive a full scholarship. He is a three-year, two-way starter for Coughlin. He started on the defensive line, leading the Crusaders in tackles this season with 97 from his strongside end position. He also had three sacks. He started on offense as a guard as sophomore, moved to tight end as a junior and moved back to guard as a senior.
Khalife&#8217;s father, former GAR coach Tony Khalife, also played at Colgate. Verbal commitments are non-binding for the athlete and college.
PLAYOFFS SET
The PIAA released the times and sites for the three state playoff games involving District 2 champions.
D2-3A champion Berwick (12-0) will play D11 champion Bethlehem Catholic (8-4) at 7 p.m. Friday at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown.
D2-2A champion Lake-Lehman (11-1) will face D11 champion Catasauqua (11-1) at 7 p.m. Friday at Wyoming Valley West&#8217;s Spartan Stadium in Kingston.
D2-A champion Old Forge (11-1) will play D4 champion Southern Columbia (12-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at Shamokin High School.
RIVERSIDE JOB OPENS
Evan Prall resigned as head coach of Riverside after three seasons at the helm. District 2 will now have at least three new coaches for the 2014 season.
Prall, a former standout receiver and defensive back at West Scranton, compiled a 14-19 record at Riverside. The Vikings finished the season 1-9, with their only victory a 13-9 decision over Susquehanna in Week 4. Riverside has lost 12 of its last 13 games dating back to 2012.
Other schools looking for new coaches are Pittston Area and West Scranton.
Pittston Area&#8217;s Mike Barrett resigned shortly after his Patriots defeated Wyoming Area 28-14 in their season finale. Barrett finished 9-21 in his three years at Pittston Area.
Joe Gercek resigned at West Scranton after five years and a 23-28 record. The Invaders started the season 3-1, but slumped down the stretch to finish 4-6.
