First Posted: 12/9/2013 WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A 20-year-old Hazleton man was sentenced to life behind bars Monday in connection with the death of a Hazle Township man following a botched drug deal and robbery last year.
Breon Davonne Judon was sentenced by Luzerne County Judge Richard M. Hughes III for his role in the Aug. 4, 2012, robbery and beating of Aaron Reznick, 29.
Judon was found guilty in October of second-degree murder, robbery, kidnapping and three counts of criminal conspiracy after a Luzerne County jury deliberated for nearly four hours at the conclusion of a six-day trial.
Investigators said Judon, of North Lafayette Court, and another Hazleton man, Mitchell Dedes, set up a deal to sell crack cocaine to Reznick. The deal went bad when Reznick told them he didn&#8217;t have the money, police said.
Not content with Reznick&#8217;s offer of an iPhone as collateral, the pair ordered Reznick to strip and get into the trunk of his own vehicle.
Reznick, a senior chemist at Sanofi Pasteur in Swiftwater, managed to escape from the trunk on Carson Street in Hazleton. Prosecutors say Judon and Dedes managed to catch Reznick, then repeatedly kicked and stomped on their victim&#8217;s head.
Reznick died nine days later.
Dedes pleaded guilty in August to third-degree murder, robbery and kidnapping, and was sentenced last month to serve 25 to 50 years in prison.
In addition to life in prison for one count of criminal homicide, Judon&#8217;s sentence also included:
&#8226; 20 to 40 years in prison for a charge of criminal conspiracy (criminal homicide), to be served concurrently;
&#8226; two to four years for criminal conspiracy (kidnapping), to be served concurrently;
&#8226; four to eight years for criminal conspiracy (robbery), also to be served concurrently; and
&#8226; Judon and Dedes must pay $52,745 in miscellaneous restitution, which includes $6,534 to the Reznick family.
Judon was granted credit for 488 days already served.
