First Posted: 10/19/2013 WORCESTER, Mass. &#8212; Opening up a three-game road set, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins used a big final period to earn a 3-2 victory over the Worcester Sharks on Saturday at the DCU Center.
Tom Kuhnhackl&#8217;s decider with 39 seconds in regulation improved the Penguins slate to 5-0-0.
Andrew Ebbett&#8217;s snap shot at 12:45 of the third period evened the game for the visitors.
Scoreless through two, the Penguins fashioned their best scoring opportunity with under six minutes remaining in the middle period when Zach Sill took a stretch pass and broke in on Worcester&#8217;s Harri Sateri only to fire his bid high off the glass behind the Sharks goaltender.
The home club held a 11-4 edge in shots on goal in the opening period
Worcester&#8217;s Freddie Hamilton began the scoring midway through the first when he corralled a pass from Sharks rookie Rylan Schwartz and snapped a quick wrister from just inside the circle to the left of Pens goalie Peter Mannino.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton evened the festivities at 1:48 of the third on Kuhnhackl&#8217;s second goal of the young season when he beat Sateri from deep in the slot.
The Sharks wasted little time in retaking the lead as a result of John McCarthy&#8217;s first goal of the season, just 2:14 later.
The Penguins power play, which struck for five goals in their two previous road contests this season (5 for 15), was a non-factor in the first 40 minutes of play, having been adroitly shutdown by the Sharks on four instances.
Mannino, who was making his first start in goal since being recalled from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL, finished with 28 saves on the night.

&#8226; It was the home opener for the Sharks in the newly renovated DCU Center, but attendance was hurt by the Boston Red Sox hosting Game 6 of the ALCS and the Boston Bruins also playing, according to the Sharks brass.
&#8226; Tom Kostopoulos, Adam Payerl, Dominik Uher, Nick Drazenovic and Philip Samuelsson comprised the opening lineup for the Pens last night.
&#8226; Mannino posted a 10-7-0 record with a .919 save percentage in 20 games for today&#8217;s opponent, the Manchester Monarchs, last season.
&#8226; The opening drop was delayed for nearly ten minutes as the DCU crew dealt with quality of ice concerns in the Penguins end which prompted the Sharks Zamboni to reemerge from the tunnel.
