First Posted: 12/3/2013 (AP) Mississippi State left guard Gabe Jackson was named the winner of the Conerly Trophy, an award given to Mississippi's top college football player.
Jackson beat out a field of five finalists, including Mississippi quarterback Bo Wallace, on Tuesday night at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Wallace won the Conerly last season.
The 6-foot-4, 340-pound Jackson has been the anchor to the Bulldogs' offensive line all season, helping Mississippi State run for more than 185 yards per game.
Jackson, a Liberty, Miss., native, is the first offensive lineman to win the Conerly in its 18-year history. He's the first Mississippi State player to win since linebacker Chris White and running back Anthony Dixon were honored in 2009 and 2010.
