LUZERNE &#8212; A bid for a paving project was accepted by the borough council during a regular meeting Wednesday night.Bidding opened on Aug. 5 for the project with paving to take place on Miller, Middle and Jackson streets. Council accepted a lowest bid of $6,827.38 from Krasavage Concrete Construction of Kingston for the completion of the project.Council motioned to advertise for bids on a project involving reparations of deteriorating drain lines beneath Willard Street, following a Center for Development, Democracy and Governance (CDDG) grant awarded to the borough. The project must be carried out before new pavement is applied to the street. Bids will be due on Sept. 9.Additional CDDG grant funding will be used to repair storm drains and pave a portion of North Walnut and Bennet streets.In other business:&#8226; the council will begin to observe a &#8220;market rate value&#8221; of the borough&#8217;s police pension plan as a more effective way of measuring assets in the current marketplace.&#8226; A chicken barbecue will be held by the fire department on Aug. 23. Fire truck-shaped cookies will also be available.&#8226; Late Luzerne resident Henry Goodman was recognized as a benefactor for the borough, who consistently donated anonymous checks for playground events.
