First Posted: 8/16/2013 WRIGHT TWP. &#8212; Investigators were back at the scene of an Aug. 9 fatal house fire on Friday morning, trying to determine what sparked the blaze that killed a 70-year-old woman and her 2-year-old grandson.
&#8220;They&#8217;re out there today, still working on it. The cause is not known yet,&#8221; Wright Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dave Pettit said of the blaze at 4 Walden Drive.
&#8220;Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary,&#8221; Pettit added.
State police fire marshals and insurance investigators were among those at the scene, he said.
Mary Ann Navin, 70, and Jack Navin, 2, died from carbon monoxide intoxication, according to acting Luzerne County Coroner Bill Lisman. He ruled their deaths accidental. Navin&#8217;s husband, Thomas, was transported to a Lehigh Valley hospital for treatment and later released.
Neighbors described the Navins as well-liked, longtime residents of the community.
The intense blaze caused significant damage to the home, where Wright Township police officer Michael Marshall reported seeing flames shooting toward the roof of the rear sunroom when he arrived at the scene. Crews from Mountain Top, Freeland and Hanover and Dennison townships responded to the fire.
Pettit said he expected a ruling on the cause in the coming days.
