Nutrition Corner: Freeze your farm fresh produce

The center will close at 11 a.m. on Aug. 20. Bag lunch available.
A representative from Apprise will speak on durable medical equipment at 11 a.m. on Aug. 21. A special National Senior Citizens Day luncheon will also be held on Aug. 21.
A staff member from Rep. Gerald Mullery&#8217;s office will visit from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 22

EXETER: The Cosmopolitan Seniors Club meets at 1 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at St. Anthony&#8217;s Parish center. The club is open to everyone regardless of religious affiliation of place of residence. Refreshments are served and bingo is played after the meetings.
The club also hosts occasional presentations on timely topics, holds seasonal luncheon parties, and conducts a monthly trip to Mount Airy Casino and varied day trips for members and non-members.
A trip is scheduled for Wednesday to Mount Airy. Pick ups in Exeter and Pittston. Non-members welcome on trips. For more details, call Johanna at 655-2720.
FALLS: The Falls Active Adult Center, state Route 92, is hosting a workshop on senior emergency preparedness by Gail Toscano from the American Red Cross at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Gene Dziak, director, Emergency Management Agency, will also be in attendance.
A concert by St. David&#8217;s male choir will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 23.

LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES: The Area Agency on Aging of Luzerne/Wyoming Counties reminds recipients of the 2013 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers that the redemption deadline is Nov. 30.
The vouchers can only be used to purchase locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at the Farmers Market stands that are participants of the Department of Agriculture&#8217;s SFMNP. Baked goods, meat, jam, honey, apple cider and eggs are not allowable purchases.
Vouchers are still available for qualified seniors. To be eligible, recipients must be at least 60 years old or turning 60 this year; live in Luzerne of Wyoming counties; meet the following income requirements, one-person household, $21,257, two person-household, $28,694. Documentation of age and residency is required. A driver&#8217;s license or photo license is sufficient. Only one set of vouchers, $20, is allowed per individual per year. Anyone residing in an assisted living facility, nursing home or convent where meals are provided does not qualify.
A voucher distribution will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 20 at 93 N. State St., Wilkes-Barre.

MOUNTAIN TOP: An AARP driver safety class will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 22-23 at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library. The class is open to new students or those who have previously taken the course.
Participants should bring a light lunch for the half-hour break. Coffee and tea will be available. Cost for the course is $14 or $12 for AARP members. A check payable to AARP is preferred.

The library is also holding free computer classes for seniors 55 and over starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday. The classes are for beginners only and space is limited.
MOUNTAIN TOP: Mountain Top Active Adult Center will hold a bingo hosted by Mountain Top Senior Care at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. 
Bag lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 20.
A presentation on cancer prevention by the American Cancer Society will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 22
