Borough: Hauler violates judge’s order

First Posted: 5/13/2013 WILKES-BARRE &#8211; The City of Wilkes-Barre annonced Monday afternoon it has received notice the Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD] will release funds for the demolition of the Hotel Sterling. The city will advertise for demolition bids within the week.
The bid period will remain open for 20 days and will include a mandatory pre-bid conference on the Hotel Sterling site prior to publicly opening sealed bids. Upon evaluation, the contract will be awarded to the lowest and most responsible bidder. The city conservatively estimates that demolition will begin within the next 45-60 days.
&#8220;We are nearing the final stages of this demolition,&#8221; said Mayor Thomas M. Leighton, &#8220;This has been a top priority since the flooding of 2011. We all look forward to the day when the public safety threat has been addressed and the detour in downtown Wilkes-Barre is lifted.&#8221;
