Vanishing adviser reappears as Iran policy player

First Posted: 1/1/2013 Mrs. Pauline S. (Shea) Baer, 84, formerly of Sherman Street in the Heights section of the city, passed into Eternal Life Friday evening in the Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Mo., following a prolonged illness.
 Born Sept. 20, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter to the late Frank and Mary (Rocko) Shea. Educated in the city schools, she was a member of the 1946 graduating class of the GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.
 Mrs. Baer relocated to Mount Vernon, Mo, in 2010 due to her lingering illness to be with her daughter. Until her retirement, she was employed by the Luzerne County Intermediate Unit for more than 30 years. Her work involved working with special needs children who were both physically and psychologically challenged within the Special Education Department. 
 She was a member of Holy Assumption of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre. She also served as the Democratic Committeewoman for her ward from the age of 21 until after the age of 75.
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. W. Charles Baer, on March 8, 1986. At the time of his death, the couple shared 36 years of married life together. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Thomas Shea.
 Surviving are her daughter, Mary Lee Sheldon, of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; son, Charles E. Baer, and his wife, Anne, of Lakeville, Minn.; two granddaughters, Amanda and Emma Baer; sister-in-law, Barbara Shea of Clinton, N.J.; and four nieces, Kathleen, Allison, Suzanne and Colleen.
 Funeral services with Panachida will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 9:45 a.m. from the John V. Morris -- Charles J. Leagus Funeral Home, 281 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre Heights, followed by the Office of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Assumption of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Very Reverend James G. Hayer will be celebrant.
 Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas. 
 Relatives and friends may join Mrs. Baer's family for visitation and remembrances on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
