WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A drunken attack landed two women at the bottom of a flight of stairs and their alleged assailant in a jail cell, city police said.Kenneth M. Adams, 47, of Hanover Township, has been charged in the incident.Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Barney Street at about 11:35 p.m. Wednesday night for a report of a domestic dispute that had turned physical.Police arrived to find two &#8220;highly upset&#8221; women who said they were about to go to sleep when they heard a knock at the door of the second-floor apartment.One of the residents opened the door to find a &#8220;clearly intoxicated&#8221; Adams standing there, according to an affidavit. Before they could tell Adams to leave, he grabbed one of the women.When the other woman attempted to intervene, &#8220;he grabbed her, too, and proceeded to throw both of them down the stairs,&#8221; the affidavit states.Police said Adams then took a cell phone belonging to one of the women, which she dropped when she had been thrown down the stairs.The women told police that Adams then left in an orange Chevrolet Cavalier, driving toward Hanover Township with his two children in the car.Police did not indicate the relationship between Adams and the women, but did state in the affidavit that one of them was staying at the Barney Street address because &#8220;she knew that the defendant would show up and cause issues since he was drinking at a friend&#8217;s house.&#8221;An officer said that he observed marks and injuries on both women that corroborated their version of events. The pair were photographed and asked to provide written statements. One attempted to do so, but said the writing was causing too much pain for her.Two juveniles in the apartment were not harmed, police said.Another officer stopped an orange Chervolet on Barney Street a short time later. According to the affidavit, Brittany and Brandon Adams told police that they were driving their father, but gave police inconsistent statements about why they were on Barney Street, police said.Police did not state how old the siblings were, nor which was driving.Police did say that Adams was in the front passenger seat, and that &#8220;he could not give a reason as to why he and his children were slowly traveling by&#8221; the Barney Street apartment.Adams was taken into custody, and police learned that he was on probation from Luzerne County.Court records reveal:&#8226; Adams was pulled over by city police on May 31, 2014 at South Main and Wood streets after failing to signal a turn. Tests revealed his blood-alcohol content was .114 percent and showed alprazolam in his system.&#8226; He pleaded guilty to second-offense DUI on Jan. 22. On March 11, Adams was sentenced to spend one to six months under house arrest with electronic monitoring. His license was suspended for one year.While Adams was being searched following Thursday night&#8217;s incident, two pills fell out of his pocket. Adams told officers they were Xanax that he takes for an anxiety disorder, but could not provide a prescription, police said.Adams was charged with two counts of simple assault, four counts of recklessly endangering another person, one count of theft and one count of possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors. He also was cited for trespassing.Adams was arraigned before District Judge David Barilla and committed to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing was set for July 14.
