First Posted: 7/19/2013 (AP) North Carolina athletic officials have ordered a company selling designer mouth guards to stop using men's basketball player Leslie McDonald in promoting its brand.
UNC athletics spokesman Steve Kirschner says the university has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Iceberg Guards. Until recently, the company had advertised on its website that McDonald had used its product.
Kirschner says the company removed McDonald's name last week. He says the school has no deal with Iceberg to provide products to athletes.
NCAA rules generally prohibit athletes from endorsing or promoting a company or product.
