Wimbledon women’s field hit by upsets

The RailRiders&#8217; bats finally awoke on Tuesday. It wasn&#8217;t enough to snap their losing streak.Despite an early six run lead, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was stunned by a blistering comeback by rival Lehigh Valley, losing 12-8 in Allentown.It was the RailRiders&#8217; fifth straight loss, having surrendered 40 runs during the skid. The IronPigs finished with 17 hits in the game, with six going for extra bases.The RailRiders had scored just five runs in their previous four games, but they nearly topped that in the first inning on Tuesday, putting four up on the board before leading 7-1 in the third.The rainy evening had the makings of a breakthrough early on for the RailRiders. Austin Romine&#8217;s two-run homer to left was the big blow in the opening frame, giving the RailRiders some much needed momentum.Rob Refsnyder answered an IronPigs run right back with a two-run single in the second to make it 6-1. Rob Segedin followed with a solo shot in the third to extend the lead.It didn&#8217;t last.Ten straight runs for the IronPigs was highlighted by a two-run homer by Tyler Henson to pull them ahead 11-7 after five innings.Romine drove in another run with a double in the seventh to stop the bleeding, but the RailRiders would get no closer as Lehigh Valley tacked on a 12th run in the eighth.Reliever Chris Martin was hit the hardest, giving up six runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings after taking over for starter Joel De La Cruz. Martin took the loss.Aaron Judge finished 4-for-4 to lead the RailRiders.
