<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212;Dr. Steven Scheinman may have come to King&#8217;s College Thursday to promote a behavioral service that soon will be offered, but he ended up marveling at a past.</p><p>The president and dean of The Commonwealth Medical College started by talking about a new behavioral health program to help those struggling to live a normal life, and finished in a place commemorating a man who lived an exceptional one.</p><p>After a short media announcing that office space in King&#8217;s on the Square would house the nascent behavioral health program, Scheinman toured part of the hotel-turned-home for King&#8217;s health care programs.</p><p>King&#8217;s College President The Rev. John Ryan showed Scheinman larger classrooms, single person exam rooms, medical treatment labs, and the door to the cadaver room (which, despite being president, Ryan couldn&#8217;t access). Then they walked to the space recently dedicated to Father Jozef Murgas, a local priest who painted religious pictures, collected butterflies, and transmitted the human voice wirelessly for the first time.</p><p>&#8220;And this is open to the public?&#8221; Scheinman asked as he admired paintings, the butterfly collection and other items. &#8220;I&#8217;m going to want to bring people to see it.&#8221;</p><p>The announcement itself sounded minor. King&#8217;s donated a small and unassuming office, 24 feet by 11 feet with a view of a roof, to TCMC. The plan is to set up administrative offices for a program Scheinman said TCMC is currently piecing together. But the impact could be substantial.</p><p>Scheinman promised more details in two weeks, at the gym of the Children&#8217;s Service Center a few blocks from King&#8217;s on the Square. He said the new behavioral health program will help train those who help addicts and others struggling with mental health issues that don&#8217;t fall comfortably under traditional medicine&#8217;s purview.</p><p>While the office space may be modest, TCMC will also have access to larger specialty rooms, King&#8217;s spokesman John McAndrew said. And the two colleges are working on signs outside the building to show the partnership, a bit of free advertising for the Scranton-based TCMC.</p><p>Ryan called the arrangement &#8220;a milestone&#8221; in the short history of King&#8217;s on the Square, a re-purposed hotel. Scheinman said it not only helps TCMC expand services in Wilkes-Barre, but also expands a growing relationship with King&#8217;s.</p><p>In a big-picture view, Scheinman said TCMC&#8217;s goal is to weave behavioral health care into primary care, the medical service most people think of as a visit to a family physician or other general practice setting.</p><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta>Reach Mark Guydish at 570-991-6112 or on Twitter @TLMarkGuydish</shirttailMeta></div>
