MOOSIC &#8212; The RailRiders struggles continue to grow.Scranton/Wilkes-Barre entered Thursday&#8217;s afternoon contest looking to get back on track against a Syracuse team it has played very well against this season.A win would have given the RailRiders their first series win at PNC Field in nearly a month. But the team&#8217;s troubles continued in a 5-2 loss to the Chiefs.SWB has now lost eight of its last 10 at home and 11 of 15 overall, with two of those wins coming against a Pawtucket team that entered Thursday on a 10-game losing streak.The loss also dropped the RailRiders out of first place for the first time since June 8 as they fell a half game behind Rochester, which played Thursday night against Buffalo.SWB now heads to Buffalo to close out the first half of the season. It might be a good thing for the reeling RailRiders, who have twice as many wins as losses on the road and are eight games under .500 at PNC Field for the worst home record in the International League at 21-29.&#8220;That&#8217;s just weird. I&#8217;ve never seen it like that. Normally on the road you kinda struggle a little more and teams find a way to win on the road,&#8221; SWB first baseman Kyle Roller said. &#8220;We gotta turn it around when we get home.&#8221;Jose De Paula, who got his season off to a fantastic start when he was activated from the disabled list in early June before getting a call-up to New York, has been struggling since returning to the RailRiders. He had trouble again on Thursday afternoon for his third straight start after getting an appearance for the Yankees.De Paula lasted just three-plus innings getting after loading the bases in the top of the fourth. The lefty allowed three runs on five hits and four walks.In his first three starts with SWB he totaled 17 2/3 innings pitched giving up just three runs. In the current three-game stretch, he&#8217;s lasted a total of just 11 innings while allowing 13 runs. His earned run average has inflated from 1.53 before his promotion to New York on June 21 to 5.20.Tony Gwynn Jr. accounted for the first three Syracuse runs with a two-run single in the top of the second and a sacrifice fly in the fourth against Danny Burawa giving the Chiefs a 3-0 lead. Caleb Ramsey, who is hitting .432 against the RailRiders this season (16 for 37), went 4 for 4 on Thursday including a run-scoring single in the fifth putting Syracuse in front 4-0.Burawa gave manager Dave Miley a very serviceable four innings in relief allowing two hits and one run with three strikeouts. It was a much-needed lift for the club after Wednesday&#8217;s 12-inning game when the team had to use five pitchers.&#8220;I wish I could have done more to keep the game a little closer because the two runs that scored when I was in there were the difference in the game,&#8221; Burawa said. &#8220;But it was nice to cover some innings. They were hitting them at people and that&#8217;s going to keep your pitch count low. If you keep it in the zone, they&#8217;re going to hit the ball, and hopefully hit it at some people.&#8221;Former RailRider Bruce Billings, who got the Opening Day nod for the team in 2014, started for Syracuse and held the team to two runs in five-plus innings. He kept hitters off-balance for the first five innings allowing just five baserunners through the first five before getting in trouble in the sixth.&#8220;He was mixing in and out and had his slider working to keep us off balance. He&#8217;s got a sneaky little fastball, that kinda gets on you a little quicker,&#8221; Roller said about his former teammate. &#8220;He did a nice job tonight so tip your hat to him.&#8221;A two-run sixth inning for the RailRiders highlighted by a bases-loaded walk by Refsnyder and RBI-single by all-star Roller pulled SWB within two. But they had the bases loaded and no outs. After Roller&#8217;s hit, another all-star, Austin Romine struck out followed by Dan Fiorito grounding into a doubleplay.The RailRiders also had the tying run at the plate in the eighth after a walk to Greg Bird.
