Repeat DUI offender sentenced to state prison

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; City police charged a man with assault after a reported stabbing near a soup kitchen and foot pursuit through the city on Wednesday.</p><p>Police said a 28-year-old man told them that D&#8217;Angelo Powell, 19, of South Hancock Street, Wilkes-Barre, approached him at the St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen, 39 E. Jackson St., and began arguing with him about the man&#8217;s girlfriend.</p><p>During the argument, Powell allegedly tried to stab the man with a knife, but the man was able to avoid the attempt and suffered only a minor laceration on his hand.</p><p>Powell then allegedly fled to Public Square as the victim followed him and called 911 at about 1:15 p.m. to report the incident.</p><p>Police converged on Public Square, as Powell allegedly fled again, discarding his shirt during the pursuit. Police reportedly chased him through the James F. Conahan Intermodal Transportation Center on South Washington Street, and the foot pursuit continued east, across South Pennsylvania Avenue and South Wilkes-Barre Boulevard.</p><p>Powell was taken into custody in the 100 block of South Hancock Street and charged with aggravated assault, police said.</p><p><em>Times Leader reporter Edward Lewis contributed to this report.</em></p><style>
