<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Pittston man will spend up to six years behind bars for his role in a 2013 shooting that injured two young girls at the Sherman Hills apartment complex.</p><p>Jamal Alford, 26, was sentenced Monday in Luzerne County Court to serve three to six years in state prison on two counts of aggravated assault, court papers say.</p><p>Judge David W. Lupas credited the man for 383 days served.</p><p>Alford, who admitted to the charges in early June, is the second of two defendants to be sentenced in the shooting.</p><p>Trevor Forest Whitaker, 28, of Brooklyn, pleaded guilty on June 15 to aggravated assault and possession of a prohibited firearm. Lupas sentcned the man to spend up to eight years in a state correctional institution.</p><p>Police charged Alford, known by the street name &#8220;Flea,&#8221; and Whitaker in June 2014 in connection with the shooting.</p><p>Investigators allege the men were together on Aug. 24, 2013, when Alford fired several shots into Apartment 614, Building 328, at the Sherman Hills apartment complex, striking then-5-year-old Janiya McFarlane and then-2-year-old Gabrielle Morris.</p><p>McFarlane survived a gunshot wound to her neck, and Morris survived a gunshot wound to her face.</p><p>Police say the men were gunning for William &#8220;Junie&#8221; Cash.</p><p>According to criminal complaints, Alford and Whitaker approached Cash outside a sliding glass door to the apartment. One of the men yelled to him, &#8220;Yo come here, bro.&#8221;</p><p>Not knowing the men, Cash went inside the apartment and Alford opened fire, police say.</p><p>Cash was at the apartment visiting his daughter and her mother, Diana Page, according to police, and was upset when he saw two men leave through the front door.</p><p>He asked Page what was going on, and went out the back door when she did not answer, police say. There he encountered Alford and Whitaker.</p><p>The incident initiated an investigation of the apartment complex by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The agency found inoperable surveillance cameras and fire alarms, broken doors and windows, and inadequate lighting.</p><style>
