<p>Law enforcement officers descended on South Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday afternoon, ultimately arresting two suspects after a carjacking earlier in the day.</p><p>City, state and federal law enforcement officials, some holding shields, entered an apartment building at the intersection of Stanley and Terrace streets about 6. p.m. after an approximately three-hour standoff in which residents were restricted to their homes.</p><p>The six-unit building had been evacuated of other residents at about 3 p.m. A resident who asked not to be named said law enforcement, including the FBI, federal marshals, state and city police, many with weapons, directed residents to vacate their back yards and remain off the street.</p><p>During the standoff, officials used a ladder and a pole to place a device near an window near an upper floor of the building, which appeared to be a camera or listening device.</p><p>Police could be heard yelling &#8220;put your hands up&#8221; and &#8220;face the wall,&#8221; after which the two men were led from the building in handcuffs.</p><p>State police at Wyoming identified Dayquan Melique Jones, 20, of Wilkes-Barre, as one of the suspects. The other suspects were not identified.</p><p>Jones was allegedly involved in the armed carjacking of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with two dirt bikes in its bed Tuesday morning in Laurel Run, firing shots at its owner.</p><p>At about 10 a.m., Steven Brunson, 26, of Pottstown, reported that his pickup truck with two dirt bikes in the bed had been stolen from a parking area where the annual Giants Despair Hill Climb race begins.</p><p>According to state police, Brunson exited his Chevrolet when two of the suspects approached im with one brandishing a handgun. Brunson claimed the handgun was placed against his head and the suspects took his keys from his pocket.</p><p>The suspects got into the Chevrolet and began to drive away. Brunson jumped in the bed of the truck, which stopped as one of the suspects fired rounds at him. Brunson jumped out and ran for cover, state police said.</p><p>State police recovered two shell casings in the parking lot about 20 feet where the suspects drove over the chain to escape. Reflective lights on the chain were damaged and scattered the pavement.</p><p>Brunson yelled to reporters that he was familiar with one of the suspects, but he did not elaborate. He said he lost one of his sneakers while the crime was taking place.</p><p>Ed Brooks, who lives in the area, said he was inside his residence and heard two &#8220;pops&#8221; and a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. He said he immediately knew the pops were gunshots, as the sound differed from fireworks that were ignited in the parking lot and adjacent woods on July 4.</p><p>At one point, there were 10 troopers and one corporal from the criminal investigation unit at the scene. A state police helicopter hovered the area for more than 30 minutes in attempts to locate the Chevrolet.</p><p>At least three people told state police they saw the Chevrolet speeding on East Northampton Street toward Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>During the standoff, police reiterated to both the media and residents that the situation was potentially dangerous and that gunfire was possible.</p><p>&#8220;We want everyone off the street for their own safety,&#8221; said one city officer.</p><p>One resident said the neighborhood had been consistently quiet in the four years since he had moved there.</p><p>He said a man who recently moved into the apartment building often met others in the street, which neighbors suspected was related to drug activity.</p><p>&#8220;We did call the police regarding our suspicions,&#8221; said the resident.</p><p>Jones was arraigned Wednesday on five counts of robbery, three counts of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, and one count each of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and simple assault. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $250,000 bail.</p><style>
