Hazleton hires four police officers, adding bilingual cop to force

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; City police responded to a domestic disturbance-turned-standoff Tuesday night, with a female victim released safely to police.</p><p>Police Chief Robert Hughes said officers responded late Tuesday night to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 100 Block of South Welles Street.</p><p>Hughes said a male suspect did not cooperate with a police negotiator who was brought to the scene.</p><p>Police then went to a back door of the residence, and the suspect immediately surrendered.</p><p>&#8220;The important thing is that we were able to get the female victim safely out of danger,&#8221; said Hughes.</p><p>Hughes said he believed the suspect may be wanted in New York state.</p><p>He said charges would be filed in regard to the current incident.</p><style>
