<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A high-rise apartment building filled with elderly and disabled residents was evacuated Wednesday after an apartment fire.</p><p>The Wilkes-Barre Fire Department responded to 300 Parkview Circle in the Sherman Hills apartment complex for a fire reported to Luzerne County 911 at 3:41 p.m.</p><p>Fire Chief Jay Delaney said a fire broke out in Apartment 6106. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke pouring out of the sixth floor, made their way up six flights, extinguished the fire and ventilated the sixth floor.</p><p>Delaney said all residents made it down the stairwells and out of the building safely without anyone falling.</p><p>Delaney sent residents from the first-through-fifth, seventh and eighth floors back to their apartments at about 4:30 p.m. and sent sixth-floor residents to wait in the community room until their floor was fully ventilated of smoke. He said only the one apartment was affected by the fire.</p><p>The challenge at hand after the fire was extinguished was getting all residents back to their apartments safely, especially given that only one of the two elevators was working, Delaney said.</p><p>Delaney said Capt. Robert Suchoski, city fire investigator, was on scene and determined the cause of the fire to be accidental from a &#8220;cooking incident.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re just fortunate no one was injured and everyone made it out safely,&#8221; Delaney said.</p><style>
