<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A teenager is facing charges he fatally shot a man outside a residence on New Alexander Street over the weekend, the city&#8217;s fourth homicide this year.</p><p>Khalil Brathwaite, 19, known as &#8220;Trae,&#8221; surrendered to authorities Monday afternoon, a day after a warrant was issued charging him with criminal homicide in the shooting death of Jason Canty, 33, of Scranton, late Saturday night.</p><p>Brathwaite remained quiet as city police escorted him to his arraignment before District Judge Martin Kane in Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said Brathwaite and Canty knew each other through friends and family. She said the investigation does not indicate the shooting was drug related.</p><p>&#8220;I think they were friends, there was a friendly connection with family, with children involved,&#8221; Salavantis said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a very difficult situation to try to explain.&#8221;</p><p>Brathwaite, a 2014 graduate of Wilkes-Barre Area&#8217;s GAR High School, was jailed at the county correctional facility without bail.</p><p>Police said Canty was shot at about 11:53 p.m. Saturday in front of 74 New Alexander St. He was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, where he died at 4:29 p.m. Sunday, according to the county Coroner&#8217;s Office.</p><p>An autopsy by forensic pathologist Dr. Gary Ross on Monday revealed Canty died from a single gunshot wound to the head. His death was ruled a homicide.</p><p>Earlier Monday, police obtained a search warrant for a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was found parked in a driveway on Hanover Street, Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Brathwaite frequently drove the Jeep owned by his mother, with whom he resided with at 197 Brown St., Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint and the search warrant affidavit:</p><p>Latisha Aiken-Canty told police she noticed Brathwaite concealing a handgun in the front of his pants inside the New Alexander Street residence. Later, she was driving in the area of Carey Avenue when she heard gunshots and Brathwaite running from the scene.</p><p>A witness not named in the complaint told police Canty arrived at the New Alexander Street residence and had a discussion with Brathwaite outside. Without warning, the unnamed witness alleged Brathwaite displayed a handgun and fired multiple rounds at Canty, the complaint says.</p><p>Police said they were advised that the gunshot wound Canty suffered was non-survivable.</p><p>Canty died after he was removed from life support, the complaint says.</p><p>Saturday&#8217;s fatal shooting was the fourth homicide in Wilkes-Barre in 2015:</p><p>&#8226; May 1: Donald Bachman, 49, was fatally shot outside his residence on Willow Street. No charges have been filed.</p><p>&#8226; April 3: Peter Bielecki Jr., 49, was fatally shot inside his residence on Carey Avenue. No charges have been filed.</p><p>&#8226; Jan. 30: Bryan Hogan, 53, was found dead inside his apartment at Interfaith Heights, Coal Street. An autopsy revealed Hogan died from a stab wound to the chest. Police charged Matthew Vantine, 28, with criminal homicide.</p><style>
