<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The weekly farmers market has dedicated vendors who have been a part of it for nearly as long as the market has been around. The reputation of Thursdays on Public Square speaks for itself and new vendors are always looking to join. That&#8217;s the story of Lynn Hoagland of Hoagland Farm.</p><p>The 70-acre family-run Elysburg farm has been in the Hoagland family since 1955. Although farmers markets have been a major part in sales for Hoagland Farm, the now-patriarch of the farm said Philadelphia was getting a little too far to travel.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been part of the markets in Philadelphia for about 12 or 14 years,&#8221; Hoagland said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a much further drive and we just thought we&#8217;d try this one.&#8221;</p><p>Hoagland said although he is just planting his seeds at the Wilkes-Barre market, he thinks roots will take quickly.</p><p>&#8220;We already like it better,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s bigger than the market in Philadelphia. We&#8217;ve got some work ahead of us though, when you&#8217;re at a location for a few years you build up regulars. But we&#8217;ve only heard good things about this market.&#8221;</p><p>A couple of weeks ago when the Times Leader caught up with Hoagland, his son-in-law Josh Snyder and Colton Snyder, 7, one of Hoagland&#8217;s 13 grandchildren who will be helping out at the stand throughout the summer, cherries and berries were plentiful.</p><p>Hoagland said that will change as the different hues of blue make room for red tomatoes, cantaloupe, plums, apricots, apples, pears, peaches and more.</p><p>In addition to fruit, Hoagland Farm also grows vegetables and raises meat, pork especially.</p><p>&#8220;We do a variety of cuts, we&#8217;ve got three kinds of sausages &#8212; fresh, smoked and hot. We&#8217;ve also got smoked kielbasa,&#8221; he said.</p><p>They also sell ribs and hams. Hoagland Farm doesn&#8217;t take preorders for its meat products.</p><p>&#8220;I guess we do run the risk of us running out of something,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But you can always ask.&#8221;</p><p>Hoagland Farm at the Wilkes-Barre Farmer&#8217;s Market is located near the band shell, across the street from Zyme.</p><style>
