<p>NANTICOKE &#8212; A $8.9 million restoration project underway on the South Cross Valley will give the route a long-overdue facelift, PennDOT spokesman James May said Thursday. .</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s lived a good life, and it&#8217;s lived the life expectancy,&#8221; May said of the road surface. &#8220;We&#8217;ve gotten a lot of complaints from the public on that road.&#8221;</p><p>As of 7 a.m. on Thursday, a single-lane closure began on the southbound lanes of the South Cross Valley Expressway (State Route 29). This morning, the northbound lanes will also be restricted to a single lane.</p><p>Both lanes will remain in a single-lane pattern until late October, when the restrictions will be lifted for the winter season.</p><p>Angie Norieka, owner of the Finders Keepers consignment store off Dundee Cross Road, saw crews begin to close off the lane on Thursday morning. She said she did not think the closure, expected to last until October, would impact business.</p><p>&#8220;It probably will hamper traffic a little bit, but I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s going to change the business flow,&#8221; she said.</p><p>May explained that crews will be closing the right lane first, and will take up to 10 days milling the right lane. As the milling is done, a paving crew will follow behind to pave the road, and crews will continue the work from north to south.</p><p>Once the right lane is done, May said crews will repeat the process in the left lanes.</p><p>May also said additional work, such as a new guiderail in the center of the roadway, is also part of the project.</p><p>The single lane pattern will resume in the spring of 2016 and will remain in place until late summer of 2016 when the project is scheduled to be complete.</p><p>May expected that some traffic delays will come as a result of the work, adding that they delays could be moderate to severe.</p><p>&#8220;Any time you take a road from two lanes down to one, especially during rush hour, you will see some delays,&#8221; he said.</p><p>May also said that the delays could extend into Nanticoke and Plymouth as motorists seek alternate routes to avoid the congestion on the South Cross Valley Expressway.</p><style>
