<p>KINGSTON &#8212; The Kingston Pool celebrated its 50th anniversary Saturday with a little music, a little rain and a whole lot of fun.</p><p>&#8220;We just want to support the pool,&#8221; said Frank Hughes, head of the Friends of the Kingston Pool. &#8220;This is really a valued part of what America was and should continue to be.&#8221;</p><p>The group, which raises money to help maintain the public pool and its facilities, recognized a half century of swimming and splashing Saturday when it hosted its fifth annual Family Fun Night.</p><p>Hughes credited the pool&#8217;s continued success to the group of &#8220;foresighted and community-minded&#8221; folks who founded it.</p><p>Minutes after the event&#8217;s 7 p.m. start time, Hughes emerged from the pool&#8217;s concession stand carrying a cooler full of ice and soda, only to find dark clouds had delivered gusty winds and a sudden downpour.</p><p>Even if it sent the DJ running to cover his equipment, the passing squall didn&#8217;t deter swimmers even for a moment, just as a recent act of vandalism couldn&#8217;t keep swimmers away.</p><p>Pool manager Allie Kane said pool employees together with the Friends of the Kingston Pool came together quickly to reopen the pool after vandals struck late last month. Swimmers were back in the water only a few hours behind schedule.</p><p>&#8220;One little bump in the road is not going to ruin all this other good stuff,&#8221; Kane said.</p><p>And even more good stuff is expected for the Kingston Pool, as it is scheduled to undergo a $1 million renovation project scheduled to start the day after the pool closes later this month.</p><p>The pool is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Daily passes cost $6.50.</p><style>
