PLAINS TWP. &#8212; A Shickshinny man was charged with stealing several road signs and rebar from a construction zone on Interstate 81 in Laflin.Brian Pennington, 54, of Cragle Hill Road, was arraigned by District Judge Diana Malast in Plains Township on charges of theft and receiving stolen property. He was released on his own recognizance.Pennington was arrested by Wilkes-Barre police on Monday when he was suspected in stealing metal from a dumpster behind the Salvation Army on Kidder Street.City police notified state police at Wyoming when road signs and rebar were allegedly found in the bed of Pennington&#8217;s Chevrolet pickup truck.According to the criminal complaint:A city police sergeant spotted a suspicious truck in the rear of the Salvation Army at about 4:43 a.m. Monday. When the officer approached, Pennington was allegedly seen removing metal from a dumpster and placing it in his truck.State police were notified that road signs were in Pennington&#8217;s truck.A trooper took custody of Pennington who allegedly admitted he had stolen &#8220;No U-Turn&#8221; and &#8220;Emergency Vehicles Only&#8221; signs, and rebar from a construction zone on Interstate 81 in Laflin.The signs were in the bed of Pennington&#8217;s truck along with 12 sections of eight-foot rebar, eight pieces of 10-foot rebar and a sign post, the complaint says.Pennington allegedly showed the trooper he had stolen the signs and rebar at a bridge construction site.City police said Pennington will be charged with theft in connection to the metal stolen from the dumpster.<div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta>By Ed Lewiselewis@www.timesleader.com</bylineMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta>Reach Ed Lewis at 570-991-6116 or on Twitter @TLEdLewis</shirttailMeta></div>
