Heavy hitters lining up against Wilkes-Barre Area high school consolidation

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The report of a stabbing at Sherman Hills apartments Wednesday afternoon had residents making their way to the curb saying, &#8220;not again.&#8221;</p><p>As at least six police vehicles made their way to into the complex in response to the report which came in at about 2:15 p.m., children continued to play on their porch steps.</p><p>Residents simply stepped out of the way when an ambulance with one victim made its way out of the complex shortly after that.</p><p>Police released few details but said the incident was between two individuals who knew each other and said the injuries were not life threatening.</p><p>Bryant Carter, who lives three streets away from the complex and is the director of the Tree of Life self-defense school there, was on site at the time of the stabbing.</p><p>He wanted to reinforce that although the public&#8217;s perception of Sherman Hills is that of violence and chaos incidents of crime are sporadic and not the every day norm.</p><p>&#8220;This isn&#8217;t every day and sometimes its not every month,&#8221; said Bryant. &#8220;In the meantime, residents, especially youngsters are continuing to live life and to move forward.&#8221;</p><p>Indeed, public attention seems to be drawn to the Sherman Hills complex from crisis from crisis. Seemingly youngsters think nothing of bullets flying through the air and blood on the ground. They are familiar with the words &#8220;crime scene,&#8221; and they know how to stay out of harms way when its necessary.</p><p>But, still such programs as Lighthouse Ministries, Tree of Life Self Defense and the Wyoming Valley Rescue in and around the development provide opportunity for hope, for self development, for fellowship and even for the opportunity to share a meal.</p><p>Working alongside pastor Wayne Morgan, National Network of Youth Ministries Northeast Regional coordinator, he foresees opportunity for such benefits as scholarship funds for young people from the complex who want to go to college.</p><p>The public may have breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday because, as of 6 p.m., police said it the victim was expected to survive.</p><p>Survival, said Carter, it not enough.</p><p>People, from any neighborhood, especially young people, he said, were made to thrive.</p><style>
