West Pittston Library reading program ends with smash

PITTSTON TWP. &#8212; About 20 employees from Mericle Real Estate Services took time from their Saturday to help out a community park in the township.The company &#8212; and it&#8217;s employees &#8212; have been volunteering to repair and restore community parks in the region through their &#8220;Lend A Hand&#8221; program. Since it&#8217;s official implementation five years ago, &#8220;Lend A Hand&#8221; has assisted in revamping about 10 community parks.Bryden Park was filled with volunteers donning blue tee shirts Saturday, doing everything from painting benches to raking mulch.&#8220;This is the second time we&#8217;ve visited Bryden Park,&#8221; said Vice President of Marketing Jim Cummings. &#8220;In 2012, we redid the baseball fields and fixed the basketball courts.&#8221;Throughout the week, laborers were at the park completing various tasks, such as pressure washing playground equipment and resurfacing the tennis court. Then on Saturday, Mericle employees came and volunteered their time by finishing the projects by painting and cleaning up the parks general appearance. Mericle provides the materials and labor for the projects, free of charge.Al Guari of Archbald has been a Mericle employee for the past 10 years, and has been volunteering in the &#8220;Lend A Hand&#8221; program since its beginning. His wife, Joan, and two daughters, Nicole and Danielle, also came out to help.&#8220;It&#8217;s rewarding to us,&#8221; he said of volunteering on the projects. &#8220;It&#8217;s good to keep the community nice and assist residents.&#8221;The program finds parks to repair by speaking with various community members, then makes a decision based on various factors.
