Kirby Park will be the site of Overdose Awareness Day celebrating the lives of those lost to addiction

<p>A Lackawanna County artist has donated a portrait he painted of slain state police Cpl. Bryon K Dickson II to the Blooming Grove barracks.</p><p>Ryan Ritterbeck, 34, of Scranton, presented the oil-on-canvass painting Wednesday to the Pennsylvania State Police.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just something I did on my own,&#8221; Ritterbeck said. &#8220;Just like everybody else, I was really moved by the tragedy, and I thought it would be a good way to honor his memory.&#8221;</p><p>Dickson, 38, of Dunmore, died from injuries sustained during an ambush at the barracks in Pike County.</p><p>State police accuse Eric Frein, 32, of opening fire on troopers outside the Blooming Grove barracks during shift change late on Sept. 12, killing Dickson and critically wounding Trooper Alex Douglass.</p><p>Authorities captured Frein after a 45-day manhunt. He faces the death penalty, charged with homicide of a law enforcement officer and related offenses.</p><p>Dickson, a 1994 graduate of Wyoming Area, left behind a wife and two children.</p><p>Ritterbeck holds a bachelor&#8217;s degree in Fine Arts from Marywood University. He also studied in Florence, Italy, focusing on Renaissance art. Ritterbeck specializes liturgical artistry and church restoration.</p><p>He is the fourth generation of the Ritterbeck family to work at Robert A. Ritterbeck Painting in Scranton. The business was founded in 1946.</p><style>
