FORTY FORT &#8212; Despite being charged Friday with perjury and child endangerment, Frank J. Michaels, 67, will retain his seat on the borough council where he is serving his second term, at least for now.Charges related to his testimony in the corruption of minors case against convicted former Coughlin dean and wrestling coach Stephen Stahl found him before District Judge David Barilla, where he was arraigned and released on $20,000 unsecured bail.Forty Fort Council President Jeff McLaughlin said Michaels will remain on the council unless he is convicted of a crime.&#8220;Its a matter of due process,&#8221; said McLaughlin. &#8220;This is the way the system works.&#8221;A system, he said, that is set up to prevent stifling one&#8217;s opponents.McLaughlin said in addition to being removed from office because of a conviction, a council member could be removed by the governor or impeached by the state&#8217;s Attorney General, two things which he does not anticipate happening in this case.&#8220;No action will be taken at this time,&#8221; he said.Michaels said Friday through his attorney Joseph Sklarosky he would plead not guilty to the charges and present a vigorous defense.<div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta>By Geri Gibbonsggibbons@www.timesleader.com</bylineMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta>Reach Geri Gibbons at 570-991-6117 or on Twitter @TLGGibbons</shirttailMeta></div>
