Six people displaced in Wilkes-Barre blaze

<p>Penn State&#8217;s first depth chart of the season was released Tuesday. Adam Breneman was not on it.</p><p>Once rated the nation&#8217;s top tight end while at Cedar Cliff High School near Harrisburg, Breneman has had to deal with significant injuries since committing to the Nittany Lions back in the spring of 2012.</p><p>The redshirt sophomore appears to again be on the road to recovery and is out indefinitely as the 2015 season opens Saturday at Temple.</p><p>&#8220;He&#8217;s got come challenges that he needs to overcome on the football field,&#8221; Lions coach James Franklin said at his weekly press conference.</p><p>Franklin is loath to discuss injuries and would not offer details on Breneman&#8217;s status. When asked about a possible time frame for the talented tight end to return, Franklin did not have one.</p><p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know. I can&#8217;t speak on that,&#8221; Franklin said. &#8220;I&#8217;m not going to get into a whole lot of details about it anyway, but I can&#8217;t speak on that. As we all know, everybody kind of handles situations differently. Everybody&#8217;s body reacts differently. So I&#8217;m not sure.&#8221;</p><p>Breneman&#8217;s previous issues have been with his knees. He tore his right ACL in the summer before his senior year at Cedar Cliff before graduating early and continuing his rehab at Penn State. He was able to play as a true freshman in 2013 and excelled at the tail end of the season, catching a touchdown in each of the final three games.</p><p>His best performance came in a road upset of nationally ranked Wisconsin, picking up 78 yards and a deep score on the game&#8217;s first drive.</p><p>He hasn&#8217;t seen the field since.</p><p>During spring ball in 2014, it was Breneman&#8217;s left knee that acted up. And when issues lingered into the summer, he elected to have surgery. Though he likely would have been able to return to play last fall, the Lions chose to redshirt him rather than use up a year of eligibility for a handful of games.</p><p>&#8220;As we all know, he had some issues in high school, he&#8217;s had some issues since he&#8217;s been at Penn State,&#8221; Franklin said. &#8220;But we&#8217;re supporting Adam every step of the way, supporting him academically &#8212; where he&#8217;s killing it, doing extremely well.</p><p>&#8220;As you guys know, I usually don&#8217;t get into these types of things. It&#8217;s Adam&#8217;s business. I think it&#8217;s Adam&#8217;s family&#8217;s business. And we&#8217;re just here to support him in every way we possibly can. So I hope we leave it at that.&#8221;</p><p>With Breneman still sidelined and Jesse James gone to the NFL, the Lions will now turn to true sophomore Mike Gesicki as their primary tight end.</p><p>Like Breneman, Gesicki was one of the most sought-after tight ends in the country from his recruiting class. At 6-foot-6 and now up to 255 pounds, he is expected to play in all situations.</p><p>Junior Brent Wilkerson was listed second on the depth chart behind Gesicki with senior Kyle Carter third. The Lions would like to redshirt true freshmen Nick Bowers and Jonathan Holland.</p><p>&#8220;I think you&#8217;d like to have four (tight ends), but we do have three we feel pretty good about,&#8221; Franklin said. &#8220;But there&#8217;s no doubt that you&#8217;d love to have Adam available for this week and you&#8217;d love to have his playmaking abilities, as well as his maturity. He&#8217;s one of the more positive guys in our program, one of the better leaders, one of the more natural leaders I think we got.&#8221;</p><p>Elsewhere on the depth chart, former Wyoming Valley West standout Eugene Lewis is listed as second team along with Saeed Blacknall at wide receiver with DaeSean Hamilton and Chris Godwin as the starters on the outside.</p><p>What remains to be seen is how much the snaps for the group will be spread around. Penn State figures to frequently be in three- and four-receiver sets with six to eight different players seeing the field throughout the game.</p><p>Hamilton frequently lined up in the slot a year ago, but the Lions have two speedsters in redshirt freshman DeAndre Thompkins and true freshman Brandon Polk who could take on more of those responsibilities this year.</p><p>Other first-time starters include Paris Palmer at left tackle, Carl Nassib and Garrett Sickels at defensive end, Jason Cabinda at weak-side linebacker, Grant Haley at cornerback and Joey Julius at kicker.</p><p>Safety Koa Farmer and true freshman running back Saquon Barkley are listed as the top kick returners with redshirt freshman running back Mark Allen as the primary punt returner. Allen is also the second-team tailback behind Akeel Lynch with Nick Scott and Barkley behind him.</p><p>Aside from Breneman, seven other scholarship players did not appear on the initial depth chart, not including true freshmen &#8212; OT Brendan Brosnan, WR Jake Kiley, LB Ben Kline, FS Anthony Smith, RB Johnathan Thomas, CB Daquan Worley and G Chasz Wright.<hr/></p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>PENN STATE DEPTH CHART &#8212; Week 1</strong></p><p><embed src="http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/psu/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/2015-16/depth_chart_non_event/depthchart_8_31.pdf" height="500" width="100%" type="application/pdf"></p><style>
