WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8211; The SMG-managed Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza announced today a program that will honor local active and retired military and first responders.The arena, along with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, will honor local military personnel and first responders throughout the upcoming season by donating the usage of an arena luxury suite for those that served their country and community.The venue&#8217;s &#8220;Salute to Service Suite&#8221; will be decorated in Penguins military and first responder jerseys and photos, and each recipient will be recognized during the game.Arena and Penguins staff members will be working with local media and community partners throughout the season for nominations for this award. Each recipient will receive 12 tickets to the &#8220;Salute to Service Suite&#8221; for a Penguins game along with three VIP Parking passes and a complimentary snack package.In addition, all active and retired military and first responders including police, firefighters and EMT&#8217;s will receive 25 percent off select concessions items at permanent SMG/SAVOR managed concessions stands by showing their ID at all Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins games, as well as for concerts and family shows starting on Sept. 12.&#8220;On this anniversary of the worst terror attack to ever hit American soil, we can offer a small way of saying thank you to those who put their lives on the line for our safety and security so we can enjoy the great freedoms we have in the United States,&#8221; said Brian Sipe, SMG arena general manager in a written statement.Sipe said he remembers where he was when the planes hit the towers and later the Pentagon and a field in western Pennsylvania.&#8220;I remember the sadness we all felt,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But I also remember the feeling of American pride that came when we united as a country and gave great respect and honor to our military personnel and first responders.&#8221;Sipe said he hopes through the discount and suite offerings, the arena will continue to say thank you for all that emergency personnel do every day.The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are offering special ticket pricing for active military members by showing their card at the NBT Bank Box Office at Mohegan Sun Arena.
