First Posted: 10/7/2014 The borough of Factoryville will receive a $1 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant to help fund downtown revitalization.
&#8220;We applied for the grant over five years ago,&#8221; Borough Manager Mary Ellen Buckbee said. &#8220;Each municipality must submit a summary of their project and a requested funding amount.&#8221;
According to Buckbee, the borough was notified Oct. 8 that they would receive the funds, but it&#8217;s not certain when the money will be available.
Buckbee added that the funds will mostly go toward redesign the grocery store and bank into more accessible areas.
According to a press release from the office of Gov. Tom Corbett, the $5 million project will consist of the construction of &#8220;The Factoryville Market Village&#8221; on College Avenue.
The 28,000 square-foot facility will serve as the home for three different businesses, including a locally-owned supermarket, a bank, and a pharmacy. The development will also include 133 parking spots, as well as a loading access and parking for two delivery trucks.
&#8220;We&#8217;re ready to go,&#8221; Buckbee said, &#8220;but there is a lot of pre-work to be done beforehand.&#8221;
In other business, after complaints from residents on College Avenue regarding disturbances from college students, Solicitor Paul Litwin plans to reach out the the planning commission to review, and possibly modify, the borough&#8217;s ordinances.
&#8220;They can take a look at the zoning ordinance to see if the composition of the town is changing and try to address it,&#8221; Litwin said. &#8220;I know there have been attempts in the past.&#8221;
