First Posted: 4/8/2014 Members of the Keystone Service Club and the Twenty-One Plus Students (T.O.P.S.) Club traveled to Washington, D. C. for an alternative spring break trip March 8 through March 11. Maria Fanning, club adviser for both clubs and Director of Community Outreach at Keystone College, served as the van driver and chaperone.
The itinerary included a stop at Arlington Cemetery for the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and a visit to the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Wall Saturday, March 8.
On Sunday, March 9, the students visited the Air and Space Museum, the Native American Museum and the Botanic Garden. They also visited the Jefferson Memorial, the Franklin Roosevelt Memorial and the Martin Luther King Memorial.
The students visited the Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV), which is the largest homeless shelter in the United States, on March 10. They met with Don Page, the Director of Volunteers, and spent time visiting with some of the women who currently reside at CCNV.
 The students volunteered to help prepare dinner at the D. C. Central Kitchen for the 1,300 residents of CCNV.
The group traveled back to Pennsylvania on March 11. On their way home, everyone stopped at the National Zoo in Washington, D. C. Fanning and her students visited the baby tigers and the baby Panda Bear, as well as the elephants, zebras, snakes, birds and apes.
