First Posted: 1/11/2014 DURYEA - An argument over passing gas and bowel movements stoked by drugs and alcohol provoked an assault with frying pans, borough police said.
Police Chief Nick Lohman and Officer Chuck Swisher were dispatched to the 500 block of Donnelly Street early this morning for a report of a physical domestic dispute in which an elderly woman was trying to break up a fight between two men.
Officers arrived on scene to find the men fighting in the kitchen area with the elderly woman trying to break it up.
Police said one of the men, age 23, smacked the other male, age 30, across the face with a hot frying pan. The 23-year-old also threw a small television at the other man, and later struck him again with another frying pan.
The 23-year-old suffered lacerations to his hand. The 30-year-old suffered lacerations to his ear and head. Both were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Police did not identify the men involved, nor did they immediately return a call seeking comment today. A description of the incident was posted on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/duryea.police" target="_blank">the police department&#8217;s Facebook page</a>.
Police said the two men admitted to getting into a fight after an argument over passing gas and bowel movements.
Officers also discovered drug paraphernalia belonging to the 30-year-old, and both men admitted to using drugs and drinking earlier in the night, police said.
The 23-year-old, originally of Texas, was staying at the house for the past three days and alleged the 30-year-old man, of Duryea, was using the drugs molly and heroin. He pointed officers to a location where a baggie he claimed contained molly was located.
Both men face simple assault and related domestic violence charges. The 30-year-old also faces drug charges, police said.
