First Posted: 10/22/2014 It wasn&#8217;t until after retirement that Barry Everson, whose paintings are on display now through December at the Dietrich Theater, began to get serious about the art of painting.
He was exploring woodcarving and was seeking a teacher when Steve Colley began giving art classes at the Dorothy G. Sheldon Art Studio at the theater. Everson enrolled in sculpture classes, but soon made the transition to painting under Colley&#8217;s tutelage.
Everson likes to think he inherited some of his artistic ability from his father, whose dream of going to art school was out of the question when the Great Depression hit. His father worked with pen and pencil and was best at figure drawing in a manner similar to magazine illustrations.
Everson painted landscapes in northeast Pennsylvania, Colorado, and other places, and those works are now on display at the Dietrich. All are invited to an artist&#8217;s reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 at the theater.
