First Posted: 5/2/2014 A field of 72 golfers will compete on Thursday, May 8 at the Huntsville Golf Club for an opportunity to play in this year&#8217;s U.S. Open. A total of 43 amateurs and 29 professionals will tee it up beginning at 8:30 a.m. for an 18-hole shootout for one of four spots to advance out of the local qualifier and an ultimate spot in the 2014 U.S. Open Championship.
Huntsville Golf Club will be hosting a US Open qualifying tournament for the fifth time according to Jeff Ranck of Lewisburg, the USGA Official in charge. They last hosted the Open Local in 2011.
The only Greater Pittston area resident in this year&#8217;s local qualifer is Andrew Golden. A Dupont resident, Golden is a junior at Wyoming Seminary. He will start his round at 9:03 a.m. Spectators are welcome.
The 2014 U.S. Open will be played on June 12-15 at the famed Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C. The USGA accepted over 10,127 entries, a record number, for this year&#8217;s open. Among the record total are 51 players, including 12 past champions, who are currently fully exempt into the field. To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index not exceeding 1.4, or be a professional.
Huntsville is one of 111 Local qualifying sites in the United States, which will be played over 18 holes between May 2-19. Those players advancing out of local qualifying will move on to one of 13 sectional sites. Sectional qualifying, played over 36 holes, will be conducted on Monday, May 26 at two international sites (Japan and England) and on Monday, June 2, at 10 sites in the United States, ranging from New York to California.
International sectional qualifiers are played on May 27 and the U.S. Sectionals are on June 3. Sectional qualifying consists of 36 holes in one day.
The 7,200 yard long par-72 Huntsville Golf Club was designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1995 and has hosted the Pennsylvania Senior Better Ball Championship, Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur Championship and the Pennsylvania Senior Amateur Championship. Golf Digest Magazine ranks Huntsville fifth among golf courses in Pennsylvania.

tied at Emanon
Ashley Machine defeated Red Mill 3-0 to take a share of Emanon Industrial League lead. Len Coleman&#8217;s one-under par 33 and Harry Stevens&#8217; 38 led the winners. Mike Lazevnick had a 35 for the Mill.
Bryan Construction defeated Fall Bridge Deli 3-0 to move into a tie. Tom Bryan Jr. (39) and Mike Fiscus Sr. (42) led Bryan&#8217;s. Mark Eyet led the Deli with a 38.
Cookies Travelers knocked off O&#8217;Connor Plumbing 2.5-.5. Tim Stott (35) and Bob Stott (37) paced Cookies while Jerry Gavin and Tom Kerrigan each had 37 for O&#8217;Connors.
Selenski Insurance defeated Powers 2-1 with Rick Laneski (39) and Wes Stelevich (39) leading the winners. Clem Parluis had 42 for Powers.
