College Roundup Burke wraps up Lehigh baseball career

First Posted: 5/3/2014 NANTICOKE &#8212; With bulging plastic shopping bags looped over both arms, 75-year-old Bob Diacheysn stopped to examine the label of an Irish music CD at a flea market held at Luzerne County Community College Saturday.
&#8220;I usually come every year,&#8221; the Nanticoke resident said, opening the bags to show his treasures.
Pointing to jewelry, silk flowers and bubble bath that filled his bags, Diacheysn said most of his items were for his wife.
&#8220;She&#8217;s sick a lot,&#8221; Diacheysn said. &#8220;She has fibromyalgia, and it hits her pretty hard. Most of the things I got are for my wife. I didn&#8217;t get much for me.&#8221;
Diacheysn said he always finds a bargain at the event, recalling last year&#8217;s find.
&#8220;I bought a power washer last year. It was a real nice one for twenty dollars, and it worked great,&#8221; he said.
Proceeds from the 16th annual flea market, which was sponsored by the college&#8217;s alumni association, will go toward the school&#8217;s Health Sciences Fund, said Bonnie Lauer, director of alumni relations and one of the organizers of the event.
Last September, the college held a dedication ceremony to unveil the Health Sciences Center&#8217;s new name: The Francis S. and Mary Gill Carrozza, R.N., Health Sciences Center. To honor his wife Mary&#8217;s memory, Francis, a retired businessman, recently made a large donation to the center.
&#8220;Mary was a nurse, and all they gave was put into scholarships,&#8221; said Peter Lello, the school&#8217;s major gifts officer.
The school&#8217;s nursing and health sciences program will also be designated as the Mary Gill Carrozza, R.N., School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Lauer added that the alumni association pledged $125,000 to support the Health Sciences Center and the proceeds from Saturday&#8217;s event will help to reach that goal.
&#8220;We have a wonderful group of volunteers that help out,&#8221; she said.
