Wesley Village in Jenkins Twp. hosts successful blood drive

First Posted: 11/15/2013 Misericordia University&#8217;s student-run radio station, Cougar Radio, is accepting music from bands in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) for the third annual, &#8220;Cougar Indie-Pendence&#8221; CD. The CD will allow bands to release their music without having to be signed to a major record label.
Cougar Radio is looking for local NEPA bands to submit one original track to be considered for the NEPA music sampler. Bands interested in being on the CD can enter by visiting the CougarRadio website and filling out the application. Submissions can also be made by mail to: Cougar Indie-Pendence, c/o Cougar Radio, 301 Lake Street, Dallas PA, 18612. Deadline for submissions is December 12.
The CD will be released in spring 2014. The recording is a great opportunity for local bands to get exposure in the college market. Once the CDs are printed and released, Cougar Radio will be distributing them to local stations for airtime as well as playing the songs on the station. CDs can also be purchased at Cougar Radio&#8217;s office in the Banks Student Life Center on the upper campus. Proceeds from the CD will be donated to a charity.
Dan Kimbrough, assistant professor of communications and faculty advisor for the radio station, is looking forward to seeing the station live up to its mission.
&#8220;The goal of college radio is to be on the forefront of new music. It should give musicians who don&#8217;t have access to major labels, funding and promotions an opportunity to be discovered,&#8221; said Kimbrough.
