DA revives county crime watch coalition

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) &#8212; Domonic Brown and Tommy Joseph hit long home runs in the seventh inning and the Philadelphia Phillies rallied past the New York Yankees 4-3 Tuesday for their first win of the exhibition season.
Brown connected off Zach Nuding, sending his second home run this spring over the batter&#8217;s eye in center field. Brown is competing for the left field vacancy.
Joseph, a catcher considered by some as the Phillies&#8217; current top hitting prospect, sent a two-run drive deep over the left-field fence. He was acquired from San Francisco last summer in the trade for Hunter Pence.
Ichiro Suzuki went 3 for 3 to lead the Yankees. He legged out an infield single, stole second and scored on Mark Teixeira&#8217;s double in the first inning off Kyle Kendrick.
Astros (ss) 9, Tigers 4 
KISSIMMEE, Fla. &#8212; Jason Castro and Brett Wallace each homered for a Houston Astros split squad in a victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Wallace had three hits for the Astros. Castro and Rick Ankiel had two hits apiece for Houston.
Robbie Grossman and Trevor Crowe drove in four runs on back-to-back extra base hits in Houston&#8217;s five-run fifth inning against Duane Below.
Brayan Pena&#8217;s two-run homer off John Ely gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead in the fourth.
Erik Bedard pitched two innings in his first start for the Astros, giving up an unearned run on Wallace&#8217;s throwing error.
Doug Fister gave up the two-run home run to Castro in his two-inning start for Detroit.
Bruce Rondon, the Tigers hard-throwing rookie closer candidate, walked two and struck out two before being taken out of the game in the third.
Rays 7, Astros (ss) 2
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. &#8212; AL Cy Young winner David Price pitched one scoreless inning and Evan Longoria tested his surgically-repaired hamstring on the basepaths and had an RBI single during Tampa Bay&#8217;s rain-shortened victory over a Houston Astros split-squad.
Price allowed a hit and walked one in a 19-pitch outing. Longoria singled and was thrown out trying to score from second in the first inning, then had another hit before scoring on Leslie Anderson&#8217;s two-run, second-inning triple off Astros starter Jordan Lyles.
Meanwhile, Price escaped injury when Marwin Gonzalez&#8217;s grounder glanced off his pitching wrist before shortstop Ben Zobrist fielded the ball and threw to first for the out.
The game was stopped by rain with the Rays batting in the bottom of the sixth.
Twins 8, Blue Jays 4
DUNEDIN, Fla. &#8212; Justin Morneau had two hits, including a run-scoring double, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays.
Morneau and teammate Joe Mauer, both taking part in next month&#8217;s World Baseball Classic, made the 2 1-2 hour trip from Fort Myers.
Mauer singled and walked twice. He scored on Morneau&#8217;s third-inning RBI double.
Morneau, who will be playing for Canada in the WBC, received a nice cheer when named during the announcement of pregame lineups. The first baseman hit a three-run double in Minnesota&#8217;s 5-4 victory over Pittsburgh on Monday.
Braves 9, Nationals 5
KISSIMMEE, Fla. &#8212; Washington&#8217;s Ross Detwiler got in some much-needed work before the World Baseball Classic, while the Atlanta Braves scored five runs in the fifth on the way to a win over their division rival.
Detwiler pitched two scoreless innings before failing to get out of the third, allowing two runs. The left-hander gave up five hits and struck out two in a game delayed an hour by rain.
The Braves erased a 3-2 deficit against loser Ryan Perry, who allowed Jordan Parraz&#8217;s homer and run-scoring singles to Freddie Freeman and Juan Francisco. Brandon Mann walked Ramiro Pena with the bases loaded before Joey Terdoslavich closed the big inning with a sacrifice fly.
Marlins 7, Mets 5
JUPITER, Fla. &#8212; Giancarlo Stanton hit his first homer of spring training to help the Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets.
Stanton, who led the NL in slugging last year and had 37 home runs, homered off Hansel Robles. Matt Downs also homered off Robles.
Casey Kotchman hit a grand slam in his first at-bat of spring training against Mets starter Jenrry Mejia, who needed 30 pitches to get through his one inning and allowed five runs.
Kotchman had been sidelined for the past week after he ran into a pop-up machine during drills and needed four stitches to close a cut on his left ring finger.
Padres 7, Reds 5 
PEORIA, Ariz. &#8212; Yasmani Grandal, Travis Buck, Alexi Amarista and Everth Cabrera had RBI singles in San Diego&#8217;s six-run fourth inning and the Padres went on to a victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
San Diego had five consecutive hits in the big inning and Kyle Blanks and Chase Headly had sacrifice flies for the Padres.
Anthony Bass, who made 15 starts last season and is a contender for San Diego&#8217;s rotation this year, pitched two scoreless innings in his spring debut
Reds center fielder Shin-Soo Choo was 1 for 2 with a RBI in the third inning.
White Sox 14, Rangers 8
SURPRISE, Ariz. &#8212; Yu Darvish struck out two while retiring all six White Sox batters he faced in his first spring start before Chicago scored 11 runs over the next two innings in a win over the Texas Rangers.
Darvish, the Japanese ace who won 16 games as a major league rookie last season, threw his fastball in the mid-90s.
Nestor Molina and Brian Omogrosso, the first two White Sox pitchers, both had two shutout innings.
Chicago scored six runs in the third off 20-year-old Cody Buckel. The right-hander, the top minor league pitcher in the Rangers organization last year, walked five of the seven batters he faced.
Cardinals 15, Red Sox 4
FORT MYERS, Fla. &#8212; Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia returned to the mound for the first time since injuring his shoulder in the playoffs, getting through two scoreless innings as St. Louis beat the Boston Red Sox.
Garcia was pulled early in the NL division series against Washington with a strained rotator cuff and inflammation.
Garcia kept the Red Sox scoreless, working around three hits and a walk. He threw 43 pitches, 30 for strikes, and struck out two.
Ryan Dempster, who joined the Red Sox as a free agent during the offseason, pitched two hitless innings. He threw 33 pitches, 24 for strikes, and fanned two.
Matt Adams, who had been slowed by tendinitis in his knee, had a two-run, pinch-hit homer for the Cardinals. He later drew a bases-loaded walk.
Cubs 4, Rockies 2 
MESA, Ariz. &#8212; Edwin Jackson pitched two scoreless innings in his first outing with the Cubs, and Chicago beat the Colorado Rockies.
Jackson signed a four-year, $52 million contract this winter. He gave up consecutive singles to start the game but finished by retiring four in a row.
Chicago outfielder Dave Sappelt, in the running for a backup job, homered leading off the sixth among his two hits.
Third baseman Christian Villanueva also homered for the Cubs, in the third.
Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin retired all six batters he faced He struck out one.
Diamondbacks (ss) 7, Angels 7 
TEMPE, Ariz. &#8212; Josh Hamilton went 0 for 3 in his Cactus League debut with the Los Angeles Angels, playing five innings in their tie with an Arizona Diamondbacks split squad.
Hamilton grounded out on the first pitch he faced and later flied out twice for the Angels, who signed him a five-year, $125 million free-agent deal to leave Texas for its AL West rivals.
Hamilton had no challenges in right field at Diablo Stadium. He says he&#8217;s thrilled with his first spring in the Angels&#8217; clubhouse, although still a bit unfamiliar with his new teammates.
Gerardo Parra hit a two-run homer and Rod Barajas added a fourth-inning solo shot for the Diamondbacks. Parra warmed up for his stint with Venezuela at the World Baseball Classic with a first-inning shot over Hamilton&#8217;s head in right.
Giants 8, Dodgers 8
GLENDALE, Ariz. &#8212; Tim Lincecum struggled in his first start of spring training, giving up three runs and failing to get through two innings for the San Francisco Giants in a tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Josh Beckett struck out three in two scoreless innings for Los Angeles.
Coming off a season in which he faltered as a starter but thrived out of the bullpen during the Giants&#8217; run to a World Series title, the two-time CY Young Award winner with a new closely-cropped hairdo allowed four hits in 1 1-3 innings.
San Francisco designated hitter Brett Pill had two home runs, including a two-run shot off Gregory Infante in the ninth inning. He also hit a solo homer in the fourth inning.
Royals 4, Indians 1 
GOODYEAR, Ariz. &#8212; Billy Butler homered and drove in three runs Tuesday as the Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians.
Both teams began the day unbeaten in exhibition play. The Royals improved to 4-0-1, Cleveland lost for the first time in six tries.
Before the game, new Indians manager Terry Francona told Justin Masterson in the dugout that he would be his opening day starting pitcher in Toronto.
Wade Davis became the first rotation pitcher used this spring by Royals manager Ned Yost. Acquired with fellow right-hander James Shields from Tampa Bay this winter, Davis started and gave up one single over two innings.
Eric Hosmer added an RBI triple for Kansas City. Matt Carson hit his second home run for Cleveland.
Diamondbacks (ss) 9, Athletics 4 
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. &#8212; Jason Kubel, Adam Eaton and Cliff Pennington each hit two-run homers and a split squad of Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Oakland Athletics 9-4 on Tuesday.
A&#8217;s starter A.J. Griffin was sharp in his spring debut. The right-hander, who came up from the minors to go 7-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 15 starts and help the A&#8217;s win the AL West last season, gave up one hit and struck out three in two scoreless innings. It was his first big league spring training start.
Josh Collmenter, sporting a magnificent beard grown in the offseason, started and pitched two scoreless innings in his spring debut for Arizona, giving up a hit and striking out two. He is projected to be the team&#8217;s long-inning reliever and a spot starter.
Mariners 6, Brewers 5 
PHOENIX &#8212; Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Milwaukee Brewers.
Franklin Gutierrez and Michael Saunders connected for consecutive one-out home runs in the third for the Mariners, who have hit 10 home runs in their first five games.
Hisashi Iwakuma started for the Mariners and pitched a perfect inning before giving way to Joe Saunders, who gave up two runs on three hits in his only inning.
Yovani Gallardo allowed three runs on five hits in 2 2-3 innings and struck out two in his spring debut. Marco Estrada followed with three one-hit innings and struck out four of the final five batters he faced.
