ALBUM REVIEW: Oliva raises the bar with ‘Curtain’

First Posted: 8/30/2013 The bad news is Open Space on Main Street is no longer open for the public to use.
The good news is why.
You can read all about it in the story on page 4, but basically the incredible success of the Boden Outlet has made it the sole tenant of the Open Space at 70-71 South Main.
The space was originally to be made available for all sorts of events &#8212; the Sunday Dispatch presented its Person of the Year and Lifetime of Service awards there in March &#8212; and Boden set up shop on weekends. But the popularity of the London-based clothing company resulted in adding more and more days to the point where now Boden is open but Open Space is not.
But that is only temporarily.
Plans are to renovate the building&#8217;s second floor as an Open Space and allow Boden to stay put and thrive.
It&#8217;s hard to find fault with such success.
And here&#8217;s hoping all of Pittston&#8217;s problems are of this nature.
LEVEL HEADS A MUST
The last story to be written for today&#8217;s paper will not be the Wyoming Area football game which was played Saturday afternoon (see page 28) but the potential Wyoming Area teachers&#8217; strike story (page 5).
We held off until the last minute hoping we&#8217;d have good news to report. At the time of this editorial writing, we do not know if that is the case.
As has been written here before, we respect both parties in these negotiations but envy neither. Wyoming Area has a reputation as an outstanding school district and much of that is because of the excellent faculty. It&#8217;s a faculty that has shown much patience in continuing to work without a contract. And a faculty that deserves to be paid as well as its counterparts in other local districts.
But Wyoming Area school directors have a responsibility to the taxpayer that cannot be taken lightly.
We just wish to remind all parties that their primary responsibility is to the students. Do not forget this as the strike deadline approaches. This is no time to let personality clashes and hard feelings get in the way of compromise.
GRAB A RAKE
Hats off to the Greater Pittston Historical Society for taking on the colossal job of cleaning up the Pittston City Cemetery.
You&#8217;ll note in the story on page 3 today that the clean-up project, scheduled for three weekends the first of which is next Saturday and Sunday, is gaining momentum with several groups stepping up. Anyone interested in helping out is welcome.
The hope is to have the cemetery ready for a re-dedication on Veteran&#8217;s Day, Nov. 11. Let&#8217;s make that happen.
