First Posted: 2/26/2013 <hardreturn>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Council Vice Chairman Tony George continued to push to terminate the contract of LAG Towing at Tuesday night's work session, and he let Mayor Tom Leighton know about it. <hardreturn>&#8220;I want to know where we are in the due process of terminating the LAG contract,&#8221; George said. <hardreturn>Leighton shot back that George should review all of the &#8220;evidence&#8221; and talk to the people who have brought complaints against LAG and its owner, Leo A. Glodzik. <hardreturn>&#8220;That's what we've been doing,&#8221; Leighton told George. &#8220;My advice is that you summarize all the complaints, review the evidence, and it's very important that you speak with all of these individuals.&#8221; <hardreturn>But George persisted, telling Leighton that Glodzik has not complied with several terms of the contract he has with the city &#8212; specifically in the areas of record-keeping and logging of all vehicles towed. <hardreturn>&#8220;These are all violations of the contract,&#8221; George said after the work session. <hardreturn>Council recommended last month the mayor begin the process of terminating LAG's contract. George had pushed for the termination in July based on complaints of price gouging and Glodzik's apparent failure to provide records to the city. At that time, council agreed to set up a committee to look into the contract. <hardreturn>Asked if he will bring the issue up at Thursday's council meeting, George said, &#8220;Probably.&#8221; <hardreturn>Glodzik recently notified the city of pending lawsuits against the city and council over what his attorney said were &#8220;malicious and false statements&#8221; made against him and his company. <hardreturn>Glodzik has said he has honored his $50,050-a-year contract and the allegations that he has violated the terms of the agreement are false. His attorney, Joseph F. Sklarosky Sr., also has warned George &#8220;further legal action will follow&#8221; because he persists in making statements that the attorney contends are damaging to Glodzik's business and reputation. <hardreturn>Council President Bill Barrett, on the advice of counsel, has declined comment.
